Title: Computation of a Few Eigen- or Singular Values of a Large Matrix

Abstract:
--------    Many problems in science and engineering require the computation
of a few eigenvalues and associated eigenvectors of a large symmetric matrix,
or the computation of a few singular values and associated singular vectors
of a large general matrix. This talk discusses several approaches to the
computation of these eigenvalues or singular values and associated vectors,
with a focus on methods that do not require factorization of the matrix or
the availability of a preconditioner.
